The Netflix series Adolescence recently highlighted how profoundly images circulating in the digital world influence our perception. It dramatically illustrates the dangers of these dynamics. In reality, too, many internet users join online communities that spread toxic and hateful ideologies. In the digital sphere, it becomes easy to blur the lines between fiction and reality, between illusion, desire, and truth.
This roundtable discussion explores how narratives disseminated online shape our collective imaginations. It will focus in particular on gender ideologies, which often aim to reinforce social divisions and establish a hierarchy between the sexes. Without a critical perspective on the digital world, these dynamics can lead us toward a form of voluntary submission—with sometimes radical consequences for individuals, their communities, and society as a whole.
How did we get here? Why does the online world amplify these phenomena?
The discussion will focus on analysis, critical thinking, concrete means of action, and prevention.
